I cultivate a small dye garden on the south coast of Sussex where I grow a number of traditional dye plants including woad, madder, weld, dyer's chamomile (pictured above), saw-wort, and a range of other colour producing plants like dahlias, hollyhock, rhubarb. I also supplement seasonal colour from foraged sources like gorse, reed, nettles, and dock. I also purchase indigo in order to dye blue through-out the year, and to over-dye yellow dyes to make a range of greens.
